Visit to Néry 2012

(June 14, 2012)

The serving battery intend to conduct a battlefield tour in Néry this year to coincide with the anniversary of "The Affair at Néry" on 1st September. There will be a program for the visit which will include a wreath laying ceremony but the details are yet to be finalised. This visit is also intended to provide the lead officer with the opportunity to recce the area in preparation for 2014. Former members of the battery (Old Comrades) are cordially invited to join the battery at Néry but would need to be fully self administered in all respects, accommodation, travel, etc. Captain Fred Coxhead, this email addressee, is the lead officer and would like to get an idea of numbers interested in joining the battery, to this end if you could let me know if you would like to go I will pass on some numbers to Captain Coxhead.
There has been many changes in personnel in the battery since the previous visit in the nineties with no one serving now who has been. Therefore if anyone has any useful information from previous visits that will assist Captain Coxhead, that would be fantastic. Someone may have the program of events from the last visit which also included a battlefield tour, church service, photo call and wreath laying followed by a football match and a village social if I recall. Any photographs of the village and surrounds would also be appreciated so I can put together a DVD for showing the lads prior to the visit.
Thats all for now, once there is a program for the visit I will let those interested know. There are some links on the web site about Néry and possibly local hotels and accommodation, the Camponile at Senlis and a Formula 1 are in the vicinity. There are also hotels in Verberie, close to Néry and Crepy en Valois.
